Padma Awards 2021: Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam Posthumously Awarded With Padma Vibhushan
Singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who passed away last year after suffering from Coronavirus, was posthumously awarded with Padma Vibhushan 2021
On Monday, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the seven Padma Vibhushan awards, 10 Padma Bhushan awards, and 102 Padma Shri awards. Among all the winners, the name of late singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is also present. He has been posthumously awarded with Padma Vibhushan. SP Balasubrahmanyam died in the month of September last year after his health deteriorated due to Coronavirus. He was put on life support system, and he breathed his last on September 25.
SP Balasubrahmanyam had sung more than 40,000 songs in 16 languages. He was known to be the voice of Salman Khan as he had sung the famous song for Salman's film Maine Pyaar Kiya. He sang songs for many of Salman's films such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Sajaan and many more. SP Balasubrahmanyam is the only name from Bollywood present in the list of award winners.
Padma Vibhushan is conferred to a person for his/her exceptional and distinguished service. This year, there are seven personalities who have been given Padma Vibhushan. Apart from SP Balasubrahmanyam, others on the list are Shri Shinzo Abe - Public Affairs - Japan, Dr. Belle Monappa Hegde - Medicine - Karnataka, Shri Narinder Singh Kapany (Posthumous) - Science and Engineering - United States of America, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan - Others - Spiritualism - Delhi, Shri B. B. Lal Others - Archaeology - Delhi, and Shri Sudarshan Sahoo - Art - Odisha.
